The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday said that it has registered 262 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total positive cases to 6,664.
The number of total known active cases in Afghanistan is 5,711, said the MoPH.
According to the Health Ministry, two people lost their lives over the past 24 hours and seven more recovered. The known death toll from coronavirus is now 169 deaths.
The total number of recoveries is 784.
The new cases, according to the ministry, were reported in Kabul (60), Herat (57), Samangan (22), Balkh (11), Paktia (10), Badghis (8), Logar (14), Baghlan (6), Wardak (10), Takhar (10), Jawzjan (9), Faryab (8), Parwan (10), Paktika (8), Kapisa (8) and Khost (11).
Health officials have again called on Afghans to take the virus seriously to curb its further spread.
So far, 22,639 people have been tested in the country.
The number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 312,029, and 4,648,785 have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University.
